ICU House of Elders Announces Three New Lawyers to Replace Late Okanyum in Pursuit to oust Emorimor

The founder members of Iteso Cultural Union-ICU have announced a team of three new lawyer’s who will represent them in the high court in Soroti in their pursuit to oust the newly installed Emorimor His Highness Paul Sande Emolot.

Last year the team comprising of William Alloch Akol, the chairperson of ICU-HOE, Joyce Asekenye, who represents Kumi, Stephen Enokokin from Serere, Joseph Okadapao from Tororo, Pauline Apio from Katakwi, Lydia Agoda Acom from Ngora and Alfred Aruo, the former Mayor of Soroti Municipality ran to court to block the election of Emorimor HH Emolot who succeeded Late H.H Augustine Osuban Lemukol who died in February 05, 2022.

The group is contesting the procedures and qualifications of Emorimor.

They contend that the ICU council was suspended by the late Emorimor, Augustine Osuban Lemukol in June 2021, a position that the petitioners say was never challenged before his death.

Alloch while addressing the press conference at Soflyv Hotel in Soroti City retaliated that the election and installation of Emorimor was against the ICU Constitution of 2019 that he notes was violated.

He adds that the suspension of the ICU Council remains one of the key issues that the elders are seeking court redress.

The team while filing their court case used late lawyer Anthony Bernard Okanyum of Okanyum, Namusana & Co. Advocates. However while speaking to media Alloch said they have maintained the lawyers of the same firm but with new lawyers on board.

The new three lawyers include; Faith Namusana, Paul Emuria and Pius Okello all from Okanyum, Namusana and Co. Advocates.

Alloch insists that there were a number of irregularities during the installation of the caretaker Emorimor.

During the hearing of the application in the presence of late Anthony Bernard Ekanyum who represented the applicants, the court stopped Emolot, Okuma and their agents or assignees and servants from holding out as Emorimor Papa Iteso or Speaker of ICU Council respectively.

The court also stopped Emolot and Okuma from holding meetings as the council of ICU, making any correspondences on behalf of ICU or transacting business on behalf of ICU or using the logo, and cultural regalia as Emorimor and Speaker.
