The Police in Ngora District has in custody a catechist for the aggravated defilement of an eleven (11) year old child.
The incident occurred at Aciisa – Agule Village in Opot Town Council in Ngora. It’s alleged that the suspect applied oil to the child’s private part before forcing himself to perform the sexual act.
The suspect has been identified as Martin Edimu, a resident of Akarukei Parish.
The grandmother to the victim Mary Aanyu said that her granddaughter narrated that the suspect defiled her in three separate incidents.
She said that the suspect defiled her granddaughter in all the three scenarios behind their house noting that victim informed her that the suspect had threatened to withdraw all his support to her (victim) if she reported the matter to her grandmother.
She said the victim narrated that the suspect asked her to lay on her back before applying the oil to her parts before removing his trouser and defiling her in all the three incidents.
The girl reportedly told her mother that the suspect had forced himself on her.
The case has been opened under SD – REF 05/2/5/023 of Kobwin Police Station and the suspect held at Ngora CPS.
The Officer in-charge Ngora CPS ASP Francis Masereka confirmed the arrest of the suspect saying that investigations into the whole incident are still ongoing.
“Our officers responded timely and arrested the suspect. Investigations are progressing and upon completion, the file shall be submitted to the Resident State Attorney for perusal before the suspect is arraigned in court,” he said,
For one to be convicted, the prosecution must prove that the victim was below 14 years of age, a sexual act was performed on the victim. In this case, the age of a child can be proved by the production of her birth certificate, or by the testimony of the parents or the court’s own observation.
