Melda Akiror from Omodoi Sub county, Katakwi district, raises her hands high, with a beaming face.
She is one of the beneficiaries of recently distributed Kroiler chicks given out by Vice President Alupo who doubles as Woman MP, Katakwi district.
Melda is among hundreds of other women in Usuk, Toroma and Ngariam Counties who received over 5000 Kroiler chicks from the Vice President to boost their incomes and improve the quality of chicken in villages.
Alupo has urged all the women to join PDM and embrace further income generating projects like dairy, fish, fruits, piggery, and massive food production.
Alupo has promised Katakwi women that a team will be dispatched to train the women on enterprise development and financial literacy and she reiterated government efforts to resolve the issue of the 39% of the population that is not yet in the money economy in Uganda.
The Vice President informed the Katakwi women about the different Government projects underway in the country and indeed Katakwi like electricity extension to rural areas, Health, Education, Road infrastructure, Education etc.
The LC5 Chairperson Katakwi District Geoffrey Omolo tasked the women to own the projects and fight poverty in their households.
He said that the road from kumi-Omatenga-Toroma-katakwi, usuk to Orungo corner would soon be upgraded to first class murrum.
The Deputy RDC Katakwi district Vincent Xavier Okwi thanked the VP for her tireless efforts to kick poverty out of katakwi and other parts of the country.
The Katakwi women pledged total commitment to full utilization of the government programs and that they would transform their livelihoods, families and societies.
