Women in Soroti City headed by Soroti City Woman MP Joan Alobo Acom and Soroti District Woman MP Ann Adeke Ebaju surprised the security in the city when they marched through the streets of Soroti to celebrate the belated women’s day celebrations.
It took close to twenty minutes for police to notice that the women were marching in the streets.
Police had deployed heavily at Soroti Sports ground and Soroti Public Gardens to block the venues but the women took to the streets to celebrate the day in protest.
Several women were seen with placards while some men also joined the protest.
They marched from Arrow square through Market Street before turning to Main Street and later forced themselves to the public gardens where they held a gathering.
Attempts by police to block and disperse the women went futile not until the chief guest requested the women to stay calm as she harmonizes the program with the security..
Earlier before the demonstration the Soroti RCC Peter Pex Paak had indicated that the event was not going to take place noting that the Chief Guest the Speaker of Parliament had declined to attend the event because of her busy schedule.
But while speaking to the media, Cecilia Ogwal, the Dokolo Woman MP who was also the chief guest, asked security to refrain from blocking opposition activities.
She also held a meeting with RCC Paak whom she asked to act professionally.
