Emmanuel Omoding the area Member of Parliament for Serere County has within 40 days of being in Parliament repaired 10 boreholes in his native county.
Omoding replaced his late father Bishop Patrick Okabe who died in a road accident on December 19, 2022 in a holy contested February 23, 2023 polls.
He was sworn in on February 28, 2023.
The repaired boreholes are part of the 20 boreholes that were reported to his office as non-functional.
According to Stephen Onyait the head of boreholes section in Okabe foundation, the borehole repairs are part of their corporate social responsibilities in ensuring that the people of Serere get access to clean and safe water.
He noted that Serere being a district surrounded by water bodies there is a serious need for clean and safe water to enable the communities avert the spread of waterborne diseases.
Charles Nimrod Adakun the LCI chairperson of Atoi village confessed that before the repair of their borehole his people used to collect water from the unprotected and untreated Aguu swamp while others could trek for a distance of about 5 kilometers to access clean water.
He also noted that before the repair of the borehole, his office was registering over 5 cases of domestic violence.
