The East African Aviation Academy popularly known as Soroti flying school on Friday held its second graduation ceremony since its establishment in 1971.
At least 59 students graduated in various disciplines from the East African Civil Aviation Academy managed to successfully graduate after years of waiting. The academy first held its ceremony in 1977.
The graduates included 31 who obtained a Diploma in Piloting, 14 with a Diploma in aircraft maintenance engineering, 12 with certificates in flight operation and two with certificates in airline ground transport pilot license.
Lt. Col. Ronald Turyamubona, the Director of Soroti East African Civil Aviation Academy, commended the grandaunts for enduring the wait and challenged them to brace for new opportunities and challenges ahead.
He also hailed the Ministry of works for the support and policy guidance rendered to the school that enabled the school to successfully hold its second graduations.
He also noted that while the school is conducting training, they are constrained by the registration status of the school.
Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Works and Transport who was the chief guest said that the government is committed to ensuring that the academy gets fully registered and managed by the government of Uganda.
The East African Civil Aviation Academy was established in 1971 to train pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers mainly for East African Airways. The academy has since been surviving through the support of the Ugandan government.
