Hundreds of people on Saturday 25 March 2023 attended the second Omeda Omax Memorial championship.
The event was held in Serere Secondary School in Serere district. The first event was held last year.
The annual Omeda Memorial Championship was started to commemorate the life of the late Omax Omeda.
During his lifetime, Omeda was a lover of athletics and sponsored several youths to attain secondary education while participating as athletes. He was a lover of 800 meters races.
The event was graced by Serere County MP Emmanuel Omoding who pledged his total support to the upcoming memorial events noting that Late Omeda’s legacy needs to be remembered and upheld.
He asked the family to work together with his office for next year’s engagements.
Uganda Athletes Federation President Dominic Otucet pledged to continue supporting the family and the activities organized in Memory of Late Omeda.
He commended this year’s participants including Heritage school, Serere Secondary School, Starlight Ococia among others for participating in the memorial exercise.
Margret Alupo Opol the Director Heritage remembered Late Omeda for supporting her initiative of establishing the Heritage Education Centre.
She called upon Serere leaders to unite and support sports, noting that sports is a venture that employs good talented Ugandans who are not academically good.
She also encouraged schools to always support sports activities.
