The Ugandan Government has released Uganda Shillings 49 billion as compensation to the 21,219 verified war claimants from the sub regions of Teso, Lango and Acholi.
This is the second bunch of the compensation cash to the claimants. In the financial year 2021/2022 released 49.3 billion that was used to pay the claimants.
In a press statement released by Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi said the money has been released and will subsequently be paid to the claimants.
Meanwhile in Soroti, preparations are in high gear for the celebrations of the first anniversary of the compensation exercise that was launched on March 26, 2022.
The celebrations are slated for 27th March 2023, according to Osborn Omoding the coordinator TAPCO.
During the launch of the compensation exercise President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in his address said that the money would be paid to all claimants in the three regions including those that did not go to court.
Omoding, says that the first anniversary celebrations shall be used for sharing experiences and challenges faced in the compensation exercise and will be funded by Teso elected leaders.
He said that the celebrations will be attended by high profile government figures.
