Ministry of Gender, labor and Social Development together with the office Soroti City Woman MP Joan Alobo Acom have donated tailoring machines, 80 chairs and 100 seater tent to two Soroti groups.
According to MP Alobo, the ministry of gender through its green jobs juakali project, decided to support the two Soroti groups after she wrote to the ministry explaining the dire need for support various groups in the city.
The benefiting groups included Opuyo catering group who received 80 seats and 100 seater tent. The other group was Arapai dropouts and child mothers’ association who managed to get tailoring machines.
While addressing the locals Alobo appealed to the beneficiaries to make the best use of the machines in order to fight poverty.
She also called on the government to skill more youth in order to combat drug abuse, idleness and laziness amongst the youth.
The chairperson of Opuyo catering group and other group members hailed MP Alobo for her good lobbying skills.
They also commended the Ministry of Gender for the support rendered to the group.
