Emmanuel Omoding has emerged winner of the Serere County by-election parliamentary seat after beating four of his contenders in the race to replace his deceased father Bishop Patrick Okabe.
Okabe died on February 19, 2022 in a road accident while traveling to Australia to celebrate Christmas with his children.
Okabe’s son, Omoding garnered 15,638 votes while his closest contender, Mr Philip Oucor of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) got 13,206 votes, according to the Electoral Commission Serere returning officer Sylvia Cheptegei.
Mrs. Alice Alaso (ANT) came third with 3,335 votes out of the 35,954 valid votes cast on Thursday.
She was followed by Independent Martin Onguruco 2,523 and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate, Mr Emmanuel Eratu who scored 1,252 votes.
Total rejected votes were 612, spoilt 117 out of 36766 votes cast.
