The Police in Serere on Tuesday afternoon blocked the Independent Candidate Emmanuel Omoding from witnessing the delivery of polling materials ahead of Thursday by-election.
According to reliable sources from the Electoral Commission, Omoding had received a call from Electoral Commission Serere to go and witness the delivery of polling materials. He was blocked by Police for close to 2 hours.
While addressing the media at his residence in Oburin Ward in Ocaapa town council Mr. Omoding slammed the Police actions and called for free and fair elections.
Omoding notes that it was unfair for Police to deny him to view the materials yet he was invited by the Electoral commission. He also called for calm amongst his supporters.
Sylvia Cheptegei when contacted said that she was not aware of any actions of police on any candidate and also said that her office had not received formal complaints from various candidates.
She also assured the voters of free and fair polls.
Serere District Police Commander Brighton Ahimbisamukama who was at the scene declined to comment on the matter but referred our reporter to the Police spokesperson who was not readily available for a comment by press time.
