A total of 74 independent Members of Parliament have rallied behind the son of late Patrick Okabe as their preferred candidate.
While speaking to media in Kyere Sub County on Sunday evening Elijah Okupa who represented other independent legislators said that the MPs have agreed to support Emmanuel Omoding because his father late Patrick Okabe was a member of the independent MPs forum.
Okupa who spoke at length said that, as independent MPs they cannot let the son of their former member to be embarrassed by leaders from other political parties.
He applauded the NRM legislators from Teso Sub region who have shunned the campaigns of the NRM candidate Philip Oucor.
He noted that Okabe was not only a member of the independent but he served all people regardless of their political affiliations.
He also requested President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni who is expected in Serere on February 21, 2023 to campaign for NRM candidate Philip Oucor to visit and lay the wreath to late Okabe’s grave because he was a loyal NRM leader.
Emmanuel Omoding on his part expressed his gratitude to the legislators noting that the boost from independent MPs has given him confidence that he will win the hotly contested polls.
He retaliated to his earlier commitment to accomplish his late father’s projects.

On the other hand the NRM Flagbearer Philip Oucor has promised to take the lead in the war against poverty, as well advocate for effective service delivery for his constituents.
Oucor says, bad leadership has for long been the main cause of failure and frustration of government programs on poverty alleviation.
“We’ve discovered that the biggest problem has always been bad leaders who don’t bother to follow up on the different government programmes. This leads to misappropriation and corruption, hence, many of our people end up lagging behind in terms of development.
The NRM government has introduced several poverty alleviation programmes like the Parish Development Model (PDM), Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) and Emyooga, however the money has not reached the intended people in the community.” Oucor says, vowing that the practice will have to change.
