The opposition Forum for Democratic Change – FDC Party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi has expressed worry over the ongoing electoral process in Serere district.
Speaking to the Media in Serere town Mr. Amuriat is worried that the ongoing exercise in Serere is going to be marred with several irregularities, vater bribery and lack of fairness.
Amuriat said that the presence of Mr. Deo Natukunda the regional electoral commission overseer who also oversaw the Soroti City East By-elections has made them as opposition to lose trust in the whole exercise.
“As FDC, we are worried that the will of the people will not be considered. We call on the people of Serere to vote massively for opposition candidates so that it will become so difficult for the electoral commission to rig this polls in favor of NRM,” Amuriat said.
At least a total of five candidates have expressed their interest to run for the hotly contested seat that fell vacant on December 19, 2022 after the demise of Patrick Okabe who perished in a road accident.
Opposition parties have sent two candidates including FDC’s Emmanuel Eratu and Alliance for National Transformation – ANT Alaso Alice.
Others in the race include; Emmanuel Omoding son to late Okabe, Martin Ongurucho all NRM leaning independents and Philip Oucor the NRM Flag bearer.
“We should be aligned to the fact that in this election there is going to be propaganda and everyone wants to associate with FDC to improve their fortunes but we can’t blame them for that,” Amuriat also said.
But Sylvia Cheptegei the Serere District returning Officer has said that as the electoral commission of Serere they are ready to deliver a free and fair elections.
She called on FDC leaders to report all irregularities to the EC for necessary steps to be taken.
