Gilbert Etomet the JEEMA candidate for Serere County by-elections and Obore Joel NUP have withdrawn from the race, we have exclusive learnt.
According to EC nomination program Etomet was to be nominated today at 5PM but while speaking to our reporter on phone Etomet said he has stepped down from the race.
He cited guidance from elders who requested him to withdraw in favour of Late Okabe Son Emmanuel Omoding.
Etomet said that, whereas his interest was to lead the people of Serere, a section of his voters have guided him to withdraw to allow Son to late Okabe complete what his late father had started.
He noted that he has accepted to withdraw in good faith and wished Omoding successful campaign season and subsequently will the race.
“I have not been bought but I have withdrawn because I listened to people who were going to give me there mandate. They told me to allow Omoding to complete what Late Okabe started and I have subsequently listened to their request,” Etomet said.
He now becomes the second candidate to withdraw from the race after NUP’s Obore Joel.
Electoral commission has set February 23, 2023 as polling day.
A total of over 75,000 are expected to participate in the polls accross 139 polling stations in the entire Serere county constituency.
