The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change – FDC Party has this morning unveiled Emmanuel Eratu as the party candidate for the Serere county by-election.
While unveiling the candidate in Kampala, the party’s President Patrick Amuriat Oboi said they have decided to field Eratu who was once the candidate in the January 14, 2021 polls.
Amuriat asked the Serere people to support Eratu saying the only way to save Serere is through voting for Eratu.
“We are pleased to announce Mr Emmanuel Eratu as our Parliamentary candidate for the Serere County by-election. He is a seasoned politician and an outstanding citizen who has the capabilities of transformative legislation in the National Assembly,” Amuriat said.
He added that, “We call upon all the people of Serere to trust us. Our candidate is rated excellent and highly commendable! We know that the Junta will unleash the money, Arsenal and security services in this campaign. However, our confidence is in the people of Serere.”
Eratu pledged to offer effective representation, act as a unifying factor to the divided Serere region, and be an advocate in defending human rights.
Eratu contested as independent candidate against late MP Okabe in the January 14, 2021and became fourth.
Eratu Emmanuel stood as Independent Candidate and polled 1,035 votes against Okabe Patrick Independent Candidate 17,826 votes who won the election, Oucor Philip National Resistance Movement Candidate 12,631 votes, Onguruco Martin Independent 10,513 votes, Eyaru Joshua Forum for Democratic Change 945 votes and Mukhalu Richard Okodel National Unity Platform 338 votes.
The Electoral Commission issued a roadmap for the Serere by-election following the death of the area MP, Patrick Okabe in December last year.
Polls shall be conducted on February 23, 2023.
