The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has today marked 37 years since the National Resistance Army (NRA) under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni captured power on January 26, 1986, after a five-year bush war.
The Liberation Day event was celebrated in Kakumiro District under the theme “Our resolute efforts to transform Uganda is a promise we shall fulfill”.
In Soroti, a series of Social Corporate Responsibilities (CSR’s) were conducted by the team of Soroti City Committed NRM Cadres. The team of close to 500 NRM Supporters headed by Anthony Egunyu gave support of Soap, Salt among other necessities to patients at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital as one way of supporting the patients.
Speaking to Media after the CSR exercise Moses Otekat Secretary Soroti City Committed Cadres first commended President Museveni for bringing peace and stability in the country.
Otekat while referring to President Museveni’s rule as being peaceful and stable however, decried the poor state of service delivery in government facilities in Soroti City
He said, in Soroti Regional Referral Hospital CT-scan is non-functional and said patients are always referred to private facilities to access health services.
He called on the government to equip the health facilities in the country.
He also cited corruption, poverty and youth unemployment as the major challenges that the NRM party is grappling to hand

The team on the other hand appealed to President Museveni to contest in 2026.
Latif Abdul the former Soroti City East Mayor candidate and also advisor of the committed cadres said that President Museveni is still strong to represent the Country the reason they are appealing to him to stand in 2026.
“We still believe that Mzee (Museveni) is capable of running this country and we are telling him Mzee your welcome,” Latif said.
When asked about supporting Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Latif said “We will wait for the guidance from President Museveni and if he tells them to support Muhoozi then we shall rally behind him.”
Latif while outlining NRM’s Achievements said that, “When the NRA/NRM government took over power in 1986, it promised democratic governance, rule of law and economic transformation based on the 10 points programme. It is now 37 years ago and the successes can speak for themselves.”
He commended the NRM government for the liberalization policy, which has enabled the growth of the private sector which has presided for close to four decades.
Anthony Egunyu the chairperson Soroti City Committed cadres also said, Ugandans can fault NRM on other things, apart from peace and stability.
