At least four people were yesterday injured by the Uganda Police during their attempt to quell the violent locals over a land dispute.
The injured have been identified as Samson Amoru, Denis Oboi, one Amodoi and Joseph Ojirot all residents of Olupe town board in Ngariam County, Katakwi District.
Margaret Imalingat the district councilor for Ngariam and Okore sub counties while speaking to media said that the injured were rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for treatment while Ojirot was taken to Katakwi Astu health facility.
The mob that was furious, armed with pangas, sticks, knives and stones hoped to set free three suspects who had earlier been arrested by Soroti Regional Police on allegations of burning David Amanu’s home due to land wrangles.
Overtime, the community in Olupe has been accusing David Ali Amanu for threatening to evict them from their land.
The LCV Katakwi Geoffrey Omolo condemned the actions of the police while appealing to the community not to take the law into their hands and called for calm.
