President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has recognized the Catholic Church’s commitment and efforts in planting Christian faith and transforming Karamoja.
Accordng to Museveni, leadership is a crucial pillar to the success of any institution, including the Church.
The president said the Catholic Church is built upon a foundation of solid and visionary leadership, saying the election of Rev. Fr. Dominic Eibu as Bishop of Kotido Catholic Diocese “is a great testimony to his tested and selfless service to God and the Catholic Church”.
In his message delivered the vice President Jessica Alupo during the consecration of third Kotido Diocese Bishop Dominic Eibu, Museveni commended the Catholic Church for maintaining a cordial relationship and partnership with the NRM government, in working towards the socio-economic transformation of the Ugandan society, saying the Church has exploited the private sector-friendly policies of the NRM government to extend social services to the public.
The President thanked the Holy Father, Pope Francis, for appointing Rev. Fr. Dominic Eibu, to shepherd Kotido Catholic Diocese.
Museveni encouraged the faithful to participate in income generating activities to sustain their households.
The President further encouraged religious to guide the faithful on selection of profitable enterprises in the sectors of commercial agriculture, industries; services and ICT.
In his acceptance speech, Bishop Eibu thanked the Pope for elevation and called for unity and togetherness among believers.
He also thanked his predecessor for his generous and dedicated service to the people of Kotido since 2009.
Eibu was consecrated by His Grace Emmanuel Obbo, the Archbishop of Tororo diocese as Principal Consecrator assisted by Rt. Rev. Giussepe as Co-Consecrator at St. Daniel Comboni, in Kotido district.
