The Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese His Lordship Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Eciru Oliach has urged Ugandans to make peace the main target for the year 2023.
Bishop Eciru made the call while delivering his new year message at Immaculate Conception Cathedral Soroti on January 1, 2023.
The Bishop asked those having difficulties in their relations to remain hopeful because God may have saved them disastrous unions.
He further called for dialogue between generations, education and work, which are tools to building lasting peace.
He noted that conflicts and domestic violence cases continue to ravage families despite continued efforts to promote dialogue.
He also asked the faithfuls to dedicate themselves to prayer and also keep asking the intercession of Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of God.
Bishop Eciru emphazised need for constant discussions and dialogue to resolve misunderstandings in communities.
He also implored leaders to seek dialogue instead of war, integral education rather than weapons if the world is to live in peace while calling upon Ugandans to shun divisions based on religion and tribes.
He said people must understand that they are different and therefore must strive to live in harmony with each other despite their religious and ethnic diversities.
He also called upon the political players to tone down on their rhetoric especially that which divides people.
