Museveni Tips Iteso on Farming
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked the Iteso to focus on improving their household incomes and ignore diversionary statements made by retrogressive politicians.
Museveni cautioned the Iteso against politicians who tell them to demand for tarmac roads and electricity before they developed themselves.
He thanked the Iteso for heeding his advice of growing fruits, especially citrus like oranges and pledged to support farmers with irrigation scheme.
The President also urged the Iteso to concentrate on income- generating activities in order to fight poverty.
Museveni further advised those with few acres to practice intensive commercial farming and those with huge chunks of land to opt for extensive agriculture.
“ln 1995, I realized that you can modernise rural areas. I moved around Uganda sensitizing people about Aiga Akipi (water harvesting) but leaders were not interested. I am like the biblical sower who is sowing among you. If people are alright in their homes, the rest is easy,” he said.
The President on the otherhand commended Vice President Alupo for her services offered to the country.
