The National Resistance Movement – NRM Party leadership has said that they will back Late Patrick Okabe’s son Emmanuel Omoding in favour of the NRM Flag bearer Philip Oucor.
During an exclusive interview with NBS Television that aired on December 27, 2022, Richard Todwong the Party Secretary General said that the Party will front late MP Okabe’s son.
Todwong said that, “if the district leaders agree, the late Legislator Patrick Okabe’s son, Emmanuel Omoding, will replace his father in Parliament as the Serere County MP with backing from the party.”
Todwong’s declaration comes just few days after top party leaders including Capt Mike Mukula the Vice Chairperson Eastern Uganda, Speaker of Parliament and her Deputy, Ministers, Government Chiefwhip, and Teso MPs confirmed their support to Emmanuel Omoding.
Todwong is optmisitic that just like Oulanyah’s son they will win the Serere County seat.
If NRM supports Omoding over Philip Oucor, it will be a second time in less than a year that NRM will be dumping their flag bearer over a new party entrant.
In 2022 June during the Soroti City East By-elections NRM chose to rally behind Hebert Edmund Ariko of Ekemu Jimmy.
Late Okabe Patrick won the January 14, 2021 as an Independent candidate after garnering 17,826 votes, Oucor Philip National Resistance Movement Garnered 12,631 votes, Onguruco Martin Independent Garnered 10,513 votes, Eratu Emmanuel Independent Garnered 1,035 votes, Eyaru Joshua Forum for Democratic Change Garnered 945 votes and Mukhalu Richard Okodel National Unity Platform Garnered 338 votes.
