The children of the late Patrick Okabe, the former Member of Parliament for Serere County have pledged to keep the legacy of their parents by taking on the projects they started.
The former legislator died in a motor accident on Naboa along Mbale-Tirinyi road together with his wife, Christine Okabe on their way to Kampala.
Okabe was the founding Bishop of the Mbale City-based Impact Ministries, Faith FM, a Christian radio station, Impact orphanage school, Impact Women Sacco, Rhema High school in Soroti city, Voice of Serere FM and over 157 Women Saccos in Serere Constituency.
His demise sent shock waves among hundreds of people who have been benefiting from his projects including the faithful in his church, the needy, widows and orphans.
However, one of Okabe’s son, Daniel Okabe has asked the beneficiaries of his father’s projects to stay firm, saying all he started shall continue running normally.
He revealed this while addressing the Christians and mourners at Impact Ministry Mbale Cathedral in Mbale district on Friday during prayers for the bodies of his late parents.
Okabe’s daughter, Lydia Okabe asked the church members and the community to work together with her family to ensure the projects continue running.
“We can’t do it alone as his Children, we need one another to have the legacy of our parents live on,” she told media in Mbale.
Bishop John Ogware from Entebbe Christian Center, who presided over the prayers at Impact ministries in Mbale church, urged the family and the church to be prayerful and embrace the character and teachings of late Okabe and his wife while Alive.
He described Okabe as Gods sent personality who had come to save the vulnerable, orphans and above all to spread the Word of God to Nations.
Pr. Wilson Wanyama of Later Rain Gospel Ministries described Okabe as a generous giver who used to support orphans, widows, street children, and vulnerable families.
He says the church has missed an icon in Christian Faith.
Conni Galiwango, the Mbale City Woman Member of Parliament, says they are ready to join Okabe’s family in consolidating the programs of their late parents.
