The Serere County Member of Parliament Bishop Patrick Okabe has died in a motor accident.
According to information obtained by TNN, Bishop Okabe was involved in a head-on collision with a Kenya truck registration number KCX 071K while driving with his wife, bodyguard and driver to Kampala in his vehicle registration number UBK 995F at Naboa along Mbale -Tirinyi road on Monday morning.
Okabe died on the spot while his wife Christine Okabe died at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital where she was rushed for treatment.
According to the Bukedi North Police Spokesperson ASP Immaculate Alaso, the accident happened at 7am on Monday at Naboa in Budaka district when the vehicle, a Land Cruiser, registration number UBK 995F in which the legislator was travelling collided with a truck with Kenyan registration numbers, KCX 0710K.
The Land Cruiser was traveling from Mbale to Iganga when it collided with the Fuso box body truck. The truck drifted from its lane and went to the other lane where it collided with the Land Cruiser,” Alaso said.
According to ASP Alaso the driver of the truck is currently on the run whereas investigations into the actual cause of the accident continue.
Joel Namisi, a Junior Pastor in Faith Ministries, which was started by Okabe confirmed the death of his boss, saying his body is lying at Mbale Hospital mortuary.
The late Okabe is also the founder of Faith FM, a Christian radio in Mbale city, Voice of Serere FM and Patrick Okabe Foundation Village Savings Groups.
