The Bishop of Soroti Anglican Diocese, Rt. Rev. Kosea Odongo has asked those close to President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to remind him about his pledge of 390 million Shillings meant for the construction of St. Peter’s Cathedral.
In 2017, Museveni auctioned two bulls at 300 million Shillings during the fundraising drive for the construction of the Anglican Church in Soroti.
He paid Shillings 20 million in cash and pledged an additional Shillings 70 million as a personal contribution for the construction of the 3 billion Shillings Cathedral.
However, the president has reportedly delayed fulfilling his pledge, forcing the Bishop to ask the Minister of State for Disabilities, Hellen Grace Asamo who represented the Vice President, Jessica Alupo at the ordination ceremony on Sunday to help convey the message.
According to Bishop Odongo, the new cathedral still requires one billion Shillings to be completed.
He said that the pending pledge from the President would help offset some urgent gaps required to make the cathedral shine.
Asamo pledged to convey the message to the President but also asked the Bishop to meet him on December 30, 2022, because he expected in Katakwi.
Soroti Anglican Diocese covers eight districts of Teso including Soroti City.
The Church launched construction of the new cathedral in 2017 after realizing that the first cathedral built in 1961 was very small with dilapidated and outdated structures.
