The casket containing the remains of the First Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese Rt. Rev. Erasmus Wandera today set foot at around midday after 15 years since his retirement.
The fallen Bishop Died on December 8, 2022 a day before his scheduled meeting with Bishop Joseph Eciru one of his successors.
Late Bishop Wandera is one of the lucky Bishops worldwide to witness two of his Priest he ordained become Bishops.
First was Joseph Eciru Oliach and Dominic Eibu newly appointed Bishop for Kotido Diocese.
Bishop Wandera who has been hailed by many has a man who served his Catholic Church delightfully served Soroti Catholic Diocese for 27 years.
He was Enthroned Bishop in 1981 and retired in 2007.
He will be buried inside the Cathedral (Church) he served as Bishop. Catholic Bishop according to the Church doctrines are buried inside the Cathedral (Church).
In the book, making sense of saints, an author Patricia Ann Kasten wrote that, ” the early churches were built near or above the grave of the faithful or martyrs with physical Cathedral structure.”
Over the years there have been closed relationship between the remains of the saints and martyrs with a physical Cathedral structure. In 787, the second council of nicaea, a Catholic sitting, it was decreed that all new cathedrals to be built with crypts inside where the saints would be placed.
Bishop Wandera started Soroti Catholic Diocese with 15 Parishes and the Diocese now has over 50 parishes.
