Soroti Catholic Diocese through the office of the Diocesan Chancellor has released a tentative burial program for the deceased Bishop Emeritus of Soroti Catholic Diocese Erasmus Desiderius Wandera.
According to Fr. Gonzaga Ongereny Waziwazi, the Chancellor of Soroti Catholic Diocese, there will be mass at St. Austin Church Mbale on Sunday afternoon at 2:00PM before the body leaving for then the body for Ngora.
“At Ngora there will be vigil mass at 6:00PM led by Ngora deanery. On Monday morning there will be mass at 9AM led by Kumi deanery then the body leaves for Soroti,” Fr. Ongereny said while adding that at 2:00PM on Monday there will be mass at Immaculate Conception Church led by Soroti deanery.
“The people will then pay their respects as the body lies in state in the church till 8:00PM when we shall have another mass led by Wera deanery. At 11:00PM Kyere deanery will take another mass, then at 3:00AM Anyara deanery will animate the liturgy.”
“On Tuesday morning at 8:00PM all the Priests and Religious will take the liturgy of hours at Immaculate Conception Church.
He added that, At 11:00AM the funeral mass will be led by His Grace Emmanuel Obbo AJ, Archbishop of Tororo Archdiocese.
The funeral mass and burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Church Soroti.
Bishop Wandera died on December 8, 2022 at his residence in Mbale.
The retired 1st Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Erasmus D. Wandera was born at Osia in Tororo Archdiocese on 16th April 1930.
He was ordained a priest on 27th December 1956. He was appointed the first Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese on 29th November 1980 and consecrated Bishop on 29th March 1981.
He retired on 6th October 2007 and was succeeded by Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Obbo, A.J.
