Residents of Omodoi and Ngariam Sub Counties in Katakwi District have burnt a taxi a registration number UBA 298R after they suspected the occupants to be behind the continued cattle theft in the district.
The incident happened on Tuesday 29 November 2022 at around 2:00am.
RDC for Katakwi Rtd Maj. Godfrey Katamba says the taxi was coming from Omodoi heading to Ngariam to load suspected three (3) stolen animals in Ootur Swamp that connects Omodoi and Ngariam sub counties.
Katamba said, the community with it’s vigilance managed to chase after the thieves from Magoro Sub-county who got trapped in the broken bridge of Ootur.
“We have sensitised all our communities of katakwi on the vigilancy methods of cattles thefts and the security is on standby always. These are purely internal theives not the Karamojong cattle raids,” RDC said.
Meanwhile several Sub County leaders in Katakwihave applaudedthe communityfor the quick actions against the cattle thieves.
