At least two notorious Umeme cable thieves in Soroti District last night died at the scene while attempting to steal a three phase electric wire transmission line.
The incident happened at around 21:20 PM in Awoja village, Awoja Parish, Aukot Sub-County in Soroti District.
Preliminary findings indicate that the two deceased persons (brothers) together with other two persons who are seriously injured were electrocuted while trying to steal a three phase electric wire transmission line.
The case has been registered at the incident vide SD REF 05/28/11/2022 and CRB 281/2022 of Awoja Police station.
The police have identified the deceased persons as Atachu Moses a 28 year male adult and Epou Isaac a 29 year male who are blood brothers.
The injured are Esuri Samuel a male adult of 23 years and male Juvenile whose identity has been withheld because of his minority.
SP Oscar Gregory Ageca The Police Spokesperson East Kyoga region said, the Police of Soroti district have visited the scene, conveyed the bodies of the deceased and injured persons to Soroti regional Referral hospital.
He added that the police shall remain to manage the situation.
“We have noted with concern the increasing theft or attempt thereof of electricity installations and would like to appeal to the members of the general public not to engage in theft or vandalism of electricity installations since it’s a dangerous and the consequences can be dire,” said Ageca.
