Rwizi Regional Police are investigating circumstances, under which their own officer lost a gun.
Corporal Wilson Nuwagira from Sanga Police station in Kiruhura district is alleged to have lost a gun from the armory where he was keeping guard on Sunday.
Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga confirmed the incident but refuted media reports that unknown assailants had attacked the police station.
According to Enanga, the armory had seven firearms while Nuwagira was on guard but one of them went missing.
He explains that Nuwagira created commotion after discovering that the gun was missing.
He added that, the corporal was placed in custody and transferred to the region to help with further inquiries into the matter.
He says the investigators are focusing on finding out whether Nuwagira gave the gun to robbers or it was stolen from the armory due to negligence on duty.
Edson Asaba Nkojo, the Kiruhura District Resident District Commissioner said he was not aware of any missing gun in the district noting that he was out of office.
