In order to embrace the government directives in curbing the increasing cases of road accidents through safety measures, Dan Mulalu through his Kazi ni Kazi movement has supported Boda Boda riders in Katakwi with 700 reflector jackets.
Last week, the Uganda police started enforcing and charging Boda-Boda riders arrested over lack of protective gears.
About 602 motorcycles have impounded in the East Kyoga region according to Police Public Relations Officer Oscar Gregg Agecca.
While receiving the equipment today 16th November 2022, at stage B in Katakwi town council, Eriya Kategaya Olupot the General chairperson Katakwi Boda-Boda Association said that the equipment will help curb the accidents especially at night.
He said that Katakwi district has over 5,000 Boda-Boda riders but several are not in position to buy the required equipments.
Each reflector jacket was secured at a cost of 15,000 each piece.
Other Beneficiaries; Joseph Okiror, David Odokon, John Robert Eupa of Getom applauded Mulalu for the support noting that as riders this will now help them in easy identification.
Dan Mulalu on his part said that the support was in line with the Boda Boda Association request for the equipment.
He also asked the population of Katakwi to be conscious of the Ebola pandemic while carrying on their daily business.
Katakwi OC Traffic Officer Beatrice Atako applauded the efforts of Kazi ni Kazi movement noting that this will help in reducing accidents.
From January to September 2022, a total of over 1,000 riders and 400 passengers have lost their lives.
