The Serere County MP Patrick Okabe has been voted by the Global Parliamentarians to head fossil free future as Focal point person for Uganda as a well as the coordinator of East and South Africa.
Fossil fuels are the leading cause of climate crisis globally.
Okabe was elected during the ongoing COP27 conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. His major role will be to network with global leaders and discuss a possible shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
His election came after he defended the government of Uganda oil exploitation and pipe line construction (EACOP) revealing that Uganda had invested a lot on the program with hopes of generating revenue through oil.
A fossil free Future is achievable but it will be a process involving science and technology transfer and climate justice for vulnerable nations.
