Police used teargas and live bullets to rescue Richard Okiror, the head teacher of Awere Secondary School in Odek Sub County in Omoro district from the wrath of angry students.
Dozens of students ganged up against the head teacher for allegedly attempting to rape a 16-year-old senior three student in his office.
The students also accused the head teacher of indecently assaulting a 14-year-old female student in the same office.
They claimed that Friday`s incident came to their attention when the attempted rape victim raised an alarm.
Samuel Owor, the Local Council Chairperson of Ajan Village where the school is located told media that the disgruntled students mobilized and armed themselves with stones, sticks, and boulders and charged toward the head teacher’s office.
He explained that the students who were shouting at the top of their voices threatened to get rid of Okiror.
Upon sensing danger, Okiror locked himself inside his office prompting the rowdy to start pelting the roof and windows with stones as they tried to break into the office.
Owor, who was next to the school says that upon noticing the violent environment, he immediately notice the police, who responded and fired teargas and live bullets to calm down the situation.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said that a team of police officers from Odek Police Station and the Resident District Commissioner managed to calm down the situation and rescue the head teacher who was still locked inside his office.
He says that investigations into the allegations leveled against the teachers are still ongoing.
