The five people who died on spot on Wednesday October 26, 2022 in Awoja bridge accident have finally been identified.
The fatal accident happened in Awoja Bridge, Ngora district at around 2000hrs local time.
Five people died on the spot while eight others got injured and are still admitted at Soroti regional referral hospital after a Fuso truck UAN 443J transporting cattle from Kotido District veered off the Soroti – Mbale highway and plunged into Awoja swamp.
The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Ngora Fred Carr hospital for postmortem.
SP Oscar Gregg Ageca the East Kyoga Police spokesperson has identified the deceased as; Kirya Moses 18yrs, Tabiruka Richard 27yrs, Kutu John Bosco 25yrs, Itakali Paul 20yrs and Waguma Ibra 25yrs all residents of Kibiku District.
Those admitted at Soroti regional referral hospital are yet to be identified.
He said that, police preliminary findings indicate that motor vehicle UAN 443J a FUSO Lorry was over speeding while loaded with cattle from Kotido. Adding that it eventually lost control and overturned at a bend.
