KATAKWI – The Vice President Jessica Alupo has encouraged the farmers in Teso to growing more fruits saying the government has already given Uganda Shillings 48 billion for the expansion of Soroti Fruit Factory which will consume all the local fruits.
The factory was commissioned in 2019 and has recently started on expansion plans undertaken by the Uganda Development Corporation (UDC).
Soroti Fruit Factory has recently been on spot for failing to consume all the fruits grown in Teso while legislators on trade committee of the 10th Parliament termed the existing machines installed before the factory started operations as obsolute.
This expansion will see increased demand for supply from the farmers.
Alupo used the same occasion to further popularize the Parish Development Model (PDM), which is a government strategy for organizing and delivering public and private sector interventions for wealth creation and employment at the parish level, the lowest economic planning unit.
Bishop Kosea Odongo of COU Soroti Dioces, in his message, advised Christians to continue working hard to combat the poverty levels in households.
The Bishop also urged the congregation to promote the education of both the girl child and boy child to achieve full social and economic transformation.
