SOROTI – The Minister for State for Fisheries also Serere District Woman MP Hellen Adoa has challenged the newly installed Iteso Cultural Union Leader – Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot to stop the Labour exportation of Teso Girls to Arab countries.
The Minister made the comment during the installation of Papa Paul Sande Emolot as the Emorimor for Iteso Culture on Saturday evening.
Her comment comes at a moment the African states including; Uganda and Kenya are struggling to return hundreds of their natives from Arab countries after getting trapped in detention centres.
The countries on spot include; Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Dubai among others.
Recently, the Presidential Private Secretary in Charge of Political Mobilization and Affairs Dan Mulalu hinted that hundreds of Teso girls were trapped in detention centres in United Arab Emirates.
According to Adoa, its time the new Emorimor speaks out and stops the exportation of Teso girls to Arab countries to be enslaved.
She noted that there is no need for Teso girls to be taken to desert countries yet Teso has vast employment opportunities including Agriculture.
She also encouraged Emorimor to create opportunities and lobby for factories to be brought to Teso Sub Region in order to accommodate the employment gap currently faced by the region.
Adoa also asked people of Teso to desist from fighting each other.
Stella Apolot Isodo Ngora District Woman MP also Teso Parliamentary Group – TPG Spokesperson asked the newly crowned Emorimor to desist from being partisan but rather work with all Political leaders in fostering development.
She encouraged Emorimor to use his position to lobby the government to compensate Iteso their lost properties and cattle during insurgencies and Karamojong raids.
Patrick Okabe former TPG chairperson and Serere County MP asked Emorimor to use his position to develop Teso Sub Region.
He said that as MPs they are going to embarked on the construction of ICU Palace while adding that through the clan leaders Emorimor must start projects aimed at bringing development.
Anthony Esenu of Kapelebyong County asked Iteso to use the position of Emorimor as a rallying point in fighting poverty regardless of their political affiliations and who is occupying the office.
Fred Opolot the Pingire County MP said that Emorimor has a huge task to unite Iteso most specifically amongst leaders in Teso while asking Emorimor to use the institution for uplifting the Ateker People.
Minister Peter Lokeris implored the New Emorimor to foster leadership of development instead of division.
But in his response H.H Paul Sande Emolot the newly installed Emorimor preached for peace and unity amongst Ateker People.
He pledged to work with all individuals while giving an olive branch to the House of Elders to work with his government.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Emorimor’s subjects present were left shocked after the top teso leaders failed to turn up for the event.
Teso Sub Region is blessed with the positions of the Vice President of Uganda, Speaker of Parliament, Ministers, the NRM Vice Chairman Eastern Uganda, FDC Party President, MPs, LCVs, RDCs and others But several were not present.
Only one Minister Hellen Adoa out of 5 minister’s was present while LCV’s only Soroti’s Simon Peter Edoru brave the days event.
Out of close to 45 MPs in Teso only Joan Alobo Acom, Patrick Okabe, Stella Apolot Isodo, Anthony Esenu, Jonathan Ebwalu, Edmund Ariko and Fred Opolot were the only attendees.
With no apologies sent, leaders present like Jonathan Ebwalu castigated the ruling NRM government for abandoning the Iteso.
He wondered why President Museveni didn’t send any of top leadership like Vice President and Speaker to represent him.
