KAMPALA – The Private Secretary to the Office of the Presidential in-charge of Political Mobilization and Affairs Dan Mulalu has said that hundreds of Teso girls working abroad are among those trapped in the United Arab Emirates for months.
Mr. Mulalu made the comments on Monday evening saying several Teso girls who went to the UAE in search of jobs are seeking repatriation after suffering obstacles.
Mr. Mulalu didn’t give the exact number of girls at detention centres or details on how the girls are being mistreated but only said that those he has interacted with, have said they are being forced to slavery while others are allegedly losing their body organs to organ traffickers.
Mr. Mulalu has challenged the Parents in Teso to stop their children planning to travel to the UAE seeking jobs.
“Our girls are being subjected to slavery in UAE. I want to appeal to our Teso People to stop their girls from going to UAE,” Mr. Mulalu said.
Kumi District LCV Nelson Elungat Lakol also said he has also received information of Teso girls being mistreated and held in detention centres in UAE.
Mr. Elungat has asked the government to quicken the process of repatriating Ugandans stuck or being held in detention centres in the UAE.
On Saturday, a group of 12 Ugandans who were repatriated from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), jetted into the country, with some of them unable to walk.
Others could not hold back their tears as they shared accounts of their dreadful experiences while in the detention centres.
Recently the leader of the National Unity platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine challenged the Government of Uganda to ensure it brings home hundreds of Ugandans that are stuck in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Mr Kyagulanyi urged Ugandans not to politicize the campaign since everyone, irrespective of their political or religious affiliations, is affected.
