SOROTI – The Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development Betty Amongi has through the court directive invited two conflicting Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) groups for a meeting ahead of Paul Sande Emolot’s coronation as new Emorimor.
Emolot’s coronation is scheduled for Saturday October 22, 2022 at Soroti City Sports Grounds.
In a letter dated October 17, 2022, the minister invited Paul Sande Emolot and Nicholas Ocilakor Dokoria for a meeting at the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development Offices in Kampala.
The Meeting is expected to take place on Wednesday October 19, 2022.
Emolot was declared new Emorimor on July 12 2022 by ICU Electoral Commission after he emerged unopposed in an electoral exercise contested by ICU House of Elder (HoE) who also held a parallel meeting at Soroti Hotel and allegedly named Dokoria as Emorimor.
According to Amongi in her letter to the above leaders, reference is made to various court orders from High Court Uganda in Soroti stopping anyone from holding out as Emorimor Papa Iteso whose matters have not been decided.
She notes that on October 10, 2022 Court referred the matter for mediation which she intends to undertake and report back to court.
Both camps have been requested to go with their lawyers and five representatives for each camp.
