KUMI: Civil Society Organizations Operating in Kumi District have tasked the district authorities to establish a government aided Primary School in Tisai Island.
Tisai Sub County has a population of over 6,000 people.
In a meeting organized by Action aid Kumi, the CSO’s tasked the district leaders to facilitate the coding of the Church of Uganda – COU founded Tisai Island Primary School as the authorities wait for funds meant for the establishment of a government school.
Samuel Acelam, the program officer Action aid Eastern region says Tisai Sub County with no government aided primary school is in the worrying state of education with the high rate of school dropouts.
Adongo Francis Arakit says that Tisai, like other islands across the country, needs to be treated like others in terms of service delivery.
Nelson Elungat, the district chairperson Kumi said whereas the district leaders are committed in supporting the community, they are faced with budget cuts.
Sarah Adongo, the DEO Kumi pointed that as a department, they have tried to code Tisai Island community school but they are yet to receive consent from Church of Uganda Kumi Diocese.
